Privacy & cookies
Short version: no accounts, no mailing list, no advertising, and nothing that identifies you. This page says exactly what does happen, because a privacy page that only lists reassurances is not telling you anything.
Who runs this
PollenEuropa.com is operated by WEBSHOT, the same people behind pollenalert.nl. It is a free forecast with no commercial relationship to anyone whose product might treat hay fever.
What we store on your device
One cookie and three entries in your browser's local storage. All four are set by this site, all four exist only to remember a choice you made, and none of them is read by anyone else.
You can clear them at any time through your browser's settings, and the site keeps working without them — it simply forgets your preferences.

Why there is no cookie banner
Consent is required for cookies that are not strictly necessary — tracking, advertising, profiling. This site sets none of those. The one cookie it does set remembers the language you chose, which is the definition of strictly necessary, and the analytics uses no cookies at all.
A banner asking permission for something that does not happen would be theatre, and clicking through it would teach you to click through the ones that matter.
Analytics
Page views are counted with Umami, running on a server we operate ourselves rather than a third-party service. It records the page you visited, the site that linked you, your rough screen size and the country your request came from. It sets nothing on your device, assigns you no identifier, and cannot follow you to another site.
We use it to know which pages are worth keeping. Nothing more is collected because nothing more would be used.
Location
When you open the site, our own edge network resolves your approximate region from the network your request arrives on — country and region, never a street or a postcode. It is read from the request and written into the response, and never stored or logged.
You can also press the location button, which asks your browser for a precise position. That is opt-in every time, your browser decides whether to grant it, and the coordinates never leave your device: they are matched against region centres already downloaded with the page. There is no geocoding service involved.
Other hosts your browser contacts
Loading any page fetches the analytics script from our own server. Nothing else is fetched from anywhere but this domain: the typeface and the icons used to come from Google and Cloudflare, which meant three companies learned that someone had loaded a page about hay fever. They are now served from here.
The one host below still receives your IP address, because that is how an HTTP request works. It is our own server.

What we do not do
No accounts, no sign-in, no email address is ever asked for. No mailing list. No push notifications — the code to send them does not exist in this edition. No advertising, no advertising networks, no data sold or shared with anyone. No cross-site tracking and no fingerprinting.
Your rights, and how to use them
Under the GDPR you can ask what data relates to you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and complain to your national data protection authority. In practice we hold nothing that relates to you individually, so there is nothing to hand over or erase — but the right to ask is yours regardless, and the address below reaches a person.
